“You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”
Walter Hagen
The story behind the gerbera……
My husband, Dominic, and I have three sons, Jack, Adam and Luke. When each of them were born, Dom bought me flowers, (yellow roses for Jack, brightly coloured gerberas for Adam and a mixed white bouquet for Luke). Since then, I have connected each of the different flowers, and colours, to each of the boys.
When Adam was 7 years old (in 2012), he was diagnosed with leukaemia; devastatingly he died under 5 months after diagnosis. As gerbera’s were the flowers Dom bought me when Adam was born, the Gerbera Lights name is my way of including him, even though he’s not here with us physically!
After Adam died, we set up a charity in his name and memory (The Adam Dunning Foundation), which aims to raise awareness of childhood cancers and money to help fund research into diagnoses and treatment.
