“Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.”
Helen Keller
It all began with an idea…….after a moan!
I was tired of buying scented candles and being disappointed that the scent hardly ever spread through the room, (and most of the few that did spread the fragrance gave me a headache as they were so artificial), so I commented to my husband that I wanted to have a go at making my own.
I ordered some waxes and wicks and set about practising, (there were a lot of mistakes) and, after a steep learning curve, I came up with the recipe that seemed to do the job and throw the fragrance through the rooms. My husband suggested that maybe this could be something more than making them just for us.
So then came the guinea pigs, namely my friends and family, who were given candles and asked to give me honest feedback in return…..none of them are worried about voicing their opinions, which, I think, is a good thing!
The feedback was excellent and Gerbera Lights was born!
I’m proud of the fact that all of my candles are unique as they (every single one of them), are made in my kitchen. The waxes started off being melted on the hob, I then upgraded to using soup kettles and now I have just purchased an imelt wax melter. This is then mixed with our beautiful fragrance blends and then hand poured and left to set. When they reach you, they should be burnt for 3-4 hours to get the most from them, (but no more than 4 hours), and they will have a burn time of approximately 35 hours.
Reed Diffusers came next and then my wax melts. I’m now constantly on the lookout for new products, fragrances and ideas. I recently found some beautiful, speckled, rose gold glasses which have been added to the range…..they are really lovely. I’ve also just added the option of gift wrapping, perfect if you are sending a gift…..or two!
Whichever you choose, I hope that they bring you as much pleasure using them as I get from making them.
